Gabriel Duarte (b.1996) is one of the most prolific young Brazilian composers of his generation. He describes himself a “cosmopolitan,” not setting boundaries between musical styles, and demonstrates a diversity and compositional versatility that spans contemporary, classical, and popular music.

Gabriel holds a Master of Music (MM) in Composition from the University of Alabama, USA, where he also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for music theory courses. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music with an emphasis in Composition from the Department of Music at the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP) and completed a specialization in Composition at the São Paulo State Music School (EMESP Tom Jobim).

His main professors were Silvio Ferraz, Rodrigo Lima, Ronaldo Miranda and Tyler Bradley Walker. 


He also complemented his studies by taking private lessons and masterclasses in festivals with Maestro Branco, Júlio César Figueiredo, Carlos Iafelice, Tiago Costa, Rodrigo Morte, André Ribeiro, Valéria Bonafé, Luca Raele, Ivan Moody, Christopher Bochmann, Laurie San Martin, Derek Bermel, Andreia Pinto-Correia, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Max Grafe, Alex Burtzos, Derek Cooper, Mark Hayes, Bob Mintzer, Dave Panichi, John Fedchock, Geoff Stradling and a masterclass with the renowned composer Bill Conti (composer of the soundtrack for the movie Rocky)
